Jameson’s Story…

Marimo’s kid and adult dance instructor, Jameson brings her years and passion of dance to our Marimo Family. Get to know Jameson more…

Over her 14+ years dance career, Jameson has danced at 13 different studios. At 2 studios she was on their competition teams and 6 of them were ballet focused studios/schools. She has studied with people from the original cast of Cats on Broadway and Hamilton, as well as many professional ballet dancers. Jameson has gotten into Joffrey Ballet School and Steps on Broadway.

Dance isn’t Jameson’s only creative outlet - she’s been playing the violin since she was 6! And has her own handmade crocheted goods business!

  • I’ve been a dancer since I could walk. My parents would turn on music or movies like the adventures of Elmo in Grouchland or The Wizard of OZ, and I would climb up onto our old living room ottoman and dance my heart out. At the age of 2.5 I was put into one of my first dance classes and immediately fell in love with the art of dance. I have now been a dancer for over 14 years and have been ballet focused for half of it.

  • Musical movies. At a young age, I would turn on movies like Annie or the Wizard of Oz, dress up, put out props such as mops, rags, and buckets, or build my own yellow brick road out of yellow construction paper to put on shows for my parents in the living room. There’s something just so fun about moving your body to music and becoming a character from your favorite movie.

  • I don’t think I could pick just one favorite, I love to do so many things. Crocheting, playing chess, reading, playing violin, spending time with my family and my dog, creating art in some form or watching musicals.

  • My favorite color is always changing but here are my current favorites:
white, black, light blue, light purple, forest green and dark blue.

  • Something a Music Teacher told me once that I always remember when I get a little too focused on perfection:

“ If we wanted everything to be perfect, no mistakes, no human imperfections; we would have robots play music. But it would be removing the art from it and the joy."

I think this applies to a lot in life because in dance sometimes we get so focused on getting perfect extensions or having the perfect six pirouettes, but to me, it’s not about perfection - it’s about the joy of the movements and creating art.

  • The last kind thing I did was volunteer for my friend to help raise money for her horse rescue.

  • Playing with my dog, reading a good book then talking about it with my friends, dancing to live music
